Welcome to Run In Lyon
Run in Lyon is a well-known event that gathers 15,000 applicants and is the second most important marathon in France, after the marathon of Paris. Since 2010, it has been organized by the association Génération Oxygène that usually organizes any kind of sporting event. This takeover helped the event make a strong come back. It is composed of three main races: the 10km, the semi-marathon, and the marathon of Lyon races. These races allow the participants willing to outperform their skills and visit the city since the race will take place downtown.
Génération Oxygène
Once upon a time an association wanted to share its passion for sports, this association is named Génération Oxygène. This association was born amongst other sports associations and they were a big source of inspiration.
Then in 2010, the Ville de Lyon, entrusted this very small but dynamic association with a new project: the Run In Lyon. Students and volunteers of the association took to heart their new task and put much of themselves into it. From that time on it grew into a major sporting event composed of the 10km, the semi-marathon and the marathon races.
The Oxygène Team and all the partners unite in a climate of conviviality and fraternity in order to create such a project. Thanks to their constant efforts, two added projects were created: Challenge Alptis of companies and the Team 21 of Moms.
Génération Oxygène gathers runners from different backgrounds: top level athletes or occasional runners, mothers but also companies’ employees. Why such an event?
For Génération Oxygène, sport, and more especially running goes with outperforming oneself, mutual aid in the effort, sharing, will and courage. Those essential and universal values are unfortunately often forgotten.
« Nous n'héritons pas de la terre de nos parents, nous l'empruntons à nos enfants. » Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
We do not inherit of the Earth of our Parents, we borrow it to our children

The three races
The 10km, an athletic event labeled FFA (French Athletic Federation)
This event, focused on the historical center of Lyon, its true identity, offers the opportunity to running lovers to discover the historical and cultural heritage of the city. After a departure from the biggest European square, the athletes will admire the hill of Fourvière from the Saône banks. On top of this hill, there is Fourvière, majestic basilica, classified in the Unesco World Heritage.
The runners then keep going, running alongside the Old Lyon, and come back on the peninsula in the Terreaux Square. Finally, they will proceed to the park on the Rhône, the biggest river of Lyon.
The race is open to any member of running clubs and others, 16 years of age and older.
The Semi-marathon, an athletic event labeled FFA (French Athletics Federation)
The 21 km race splits up from the 10km race at the bridge Morand, and resumes on the Rhône banks in order to reach the beautiful park of Tête d’Or. The runners discover the botanical and zoological parts and appreciate going up and down the sides of the lake.
After a wonderful trip within the natural heritage of the city, the participants run again on the banks to finish the race in the Bellecour square, with the support of the loud and joyful crowd.
The race is open to any member of running clubs and others, 18 years of age and older.
The Marathon, an athletic event labeled FFA (French Athletic Federation)
